Multiple scouts say their teams would love to take Lidge away from the Astros, but Purpura isn't sold that Lidge is at a point where he needs the proverbial change of scenery yet. -- Houston Chronicle The Rays could use Brad Lidge and have several things the Astros need: a frontline center fielder (Rocco Baldelli), young starting pitchers (Jason Hammel, Andy Sonnanstine, J.P. Howell) and/or a future starting catcher (Shawn Riggans). -- St. Petersburg Times The Rockies have offered Byung-Hyun Kim to the Orioles, revisiting talks that began in spring training. Baltimore was interested, but only if Colorado would eat a large chunk of Kim's $2.5 million contract. The Orioles have reliever Todd Williams in Triple-A making $775,000 who could help balance out a deal. -- Denver Post One Mariner said Brendan Donnelly had given word through a third party that he was going to hit Jose Guillen. Guillen said he's never been hit by Donnelly, but it didn't matter. He heard a threat that he was going to be hit. -- Boston Globe Jered Weaver's anticipated return against the Red Sox on Monday, a game that would match Weaver against Daisuke Matsuzaka, is looking a little iffy. Weaver, slowed this spring by shoulder tendinitis, is scheduled to throw 90 pitches for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga tonight, but the right-hander could need one more rehab start, probably for triple-A Salt Lake, before being activated. -- Los Angeles Times Padres GM Kevin Towers said the next players on the Padres' negotiations list are center fielder Mike Cameron and reliever Scott Linebrink -- both eligible for free agency at the end of the season. -- San Diego Union-Tribune The Mets rewarded Lastings Milledge for an exceptional spring by including him on their opening day roster, but it appears as if he is holding a spot for the fifth starter Mike Pelfrey, who will probably be activated so he can start Friday night against the Nationals. After Pelfrey is activated, there is a good chance that Milledge will be sent to Class AAA New Orleans, where he can get some at-bats. -- New York Times More than a week after the sale of the Cubs' parent company put contract talks with pitcher Carlos Zambrano in limbo, team president John McDonough still would not clarify the issues holding up the process nor say how concerned the organization is about possibly losing Zambrano because of the delay. -- Chicago Sun-Times The design for the new Twins ballpark that will be unveiled Thursday will show a 40,000-seat stadium more resembling the Cubs' Wrigley Field than the Mariners' Safeco Field. -- St. Paul Pioneer Press While progress is being made in Jay Payton's recovery from a strained left hamstring, the Orioles' outfielder could be more than a week away from returning to the active roster. -- Baltimore Sun | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
