But sources have told Golf World that the Mickelson-Harmon alliance will be made official before the EDS Byron Nelson. By then, Mickelson and Harmon will have worked at an undisclosed location in preparation for The Players Championship and ultimately the U.S. Open. --GolfDigest.com David Duval hasn't played the PGA Tour in two months and could play only sparingly through the summer because his wife is having a difficult pregnancy with their second child and will be on bed rest until the baby is due in August. While he chose not to discuss specifics of his wife's pregnancy, he said she was doing better but still is taking it easy. The couple is expecting a girl. -- PGA.com Tiger Woods is likely to officially commit to play in the Wachovia Championship, giving the tournament the top 10 golfers in the latest world golf rankings. Woods' official commitment likely will not come until later this week, but multiple sources have indicated the world's top-ranked golfer is expected to play at the Quail Hollow Club for the third time in the tournament's five-year history. -- Charlotte Observer Hank Haney, Tiger Woods' current swing guru, earlier this year asked the question: "If you want to be the best golfer in the world, why would you go to college?" How much drama will depend on where PGA Tournament Director Arvin Ginn and his staff place the tees and pins in today's final round. -- New Orleans Times-Picayune When Justin Leonard finished tied for 16th in the Verizon Heritage, it marked his first top-20 finish since the 2006 FBR Open, a stretch of 31 tournaments in which he missed 15 cuts. How uncharacteristic was that? Consider that Leonard missed just 15 cuts in the three previous seasons combined. -- Boston Globe As for comebacks that probably should be reconsidered, Nancy Lopez, 50, shot 83-80 at the Ginn and was dead last in a field of 140. "I'm disappointed with my numbers, but getting out here and playing is the only way you can come back," said Lopez, who has stated she's intent on playing at least seven events this season. -- Boston Globe | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
