The current schedule for the COT is 16 races this season, 29 in 2008 and all 36 races in 2009. But several owners have indicated they would like to run the COT in the entire schedule next year, saving both money and the time it takes to build two different cars. -- Charlotte Observer Toyota officials knew the company's first season in Nextel Cup would be tough, but never dreamed it would be this difficult. Before Saturday's race, Jim Aust, president of Toyota Racing Development said Toyota was working on a project with one of its new teams, Michael Waltrip Racing, to rebuild a car from scratch and try to improve the overall performance. Aust said Toyota Racing Development in California also is working hard on improving the Cup engine. -- Charlotte Observer Chevy engineers are happy with the way the new R07 engines looked after racing last weekend at Texas. Five cars had the new engine, with No. 11-Denny Hamlin's ninth-place finish the best among them. One Hendrick Motorsports engine and four Joe Gibbs Racing engines were in cars for the event. He frequently gives money to lesser-known racers who have come across hard times. -- Arizona Republic Max Siegel, President of Global Operations for Dale Earnhardt, Inc., announced the formation of the Earnhardt Entertainment Division, a new entertainment division within DEI that will merge the various aspects of the entertainment industry with NASCAR. The Earnhardt Entertainment Division will develop, produce and distribute music, film and television, visual imaging and digital content, as well as special event projects. -- jayski.com Fitz Motorsports tire carrier Jason Miller was released from the hospital Saturday morning after being hit by the car of J.J. Yeley during the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 Friday night at Phoenix International Raceway, the team said in a statement. Miller severely bruised his midsection and abdomen, and also bruised his spleen.
