If Boston receives the No. 1 pick, talk around the team is that it will select Greg Oden, though there are strong advocates for Texas freshman forward Kevin Durant. -- Boston Globe

The league, privately, has told a few folks that referee Joey Crawford was working under a zero-tolerance policy. Kevin Garnett has the right to opt out of his contract after next season, and there's rampant speculation that he will do just that and sign with the Lakers as a free agent. Because of that opt-out clause, many NBA observers think Kevin McHale should trade Garnett this summer to ensure the team doesn't lose him without getting anything in return. -- Chicago Sun-Times

Aside from re-signing or extending the contracts of a few Pistons (Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Amir Johnson), adding a couple of first-round draft picks and maybe one free agent, Joe Dumars doesn't anticipate that Detroit will be a major player on the trade front this summer. -- Mlive.com

D'Antoni also broke the ice by pointing to coach Phil Jackson's walk and saying, "Look, it's the penguin." -- Arizona Republic

The workouts focus on cleaning up the movements of his on-court skills, which become ragged through the season's grind. -- Arizona Republic

In 2006-07, the Timberwolves became a case study in poor chemistry. Some of the discord had to do with the lack of enough playing time for all the guards. The roster was crammed with them, and that made it difficult to keep everyone happy. When the Wolves kept losing, individual agendas festered. Some players paid to be key contributors weren't happy with their roles. The chemistry problems dictate changes must be made. -- St. Paul Pioneer Press
