The irony was not lost on viewers. The clip of the guys getting hyphy to Mistah F.A.B.'s irresistibly catchy single Ghost Ride It as Houghteling's Volvo rolls down a quiet cul-de-sac was an instant success, particularly after it appeared on Deadspin. Hundreds of people emailed them, girls proposed marriage, and a Bay Area newscast featured their clip in a special report on the dangers of ghost riding and "sideshows." "Ghostride the Volvo" is among the most watched, most discussed, and highest-rated clips on YouTube. Best of all, Mistah F.A.B., his "Ghost Ride It" video having just debuted, called Rosenberg last week to express his delight with the clip. "He said he wants to make another 'Ghostride the Volvo' video with us," Rosenberg said. Perhaps Playboy bunny Kendra Wilkinson can join in. Having recently appeared with Akon and Eminem in the video for Smack That, Kendra, 21, is known for being a diehard sports fan (she posed for Playboy in a somewhat --ahem - modified LaDanian Tomlinson jersey) and lover of rap music ("I grew up listening to [Bay Area rappers] Too Short and Tupac. Too Short started it all"). She refers to herself as "K-Dub" and in one episode of the E! show The Girls Next Door she got diamond grillz for her teeth. She is also cited on Wikipedia, of all places, for demonstrating how to ghost ride the whip on The Girls Next Door. "I thought it was the perfect opportunity on the show to represent the West Coast," she says of her ghost riding the whip. She danced alongside her Escalade, replete with 24-inch rims, which the show implied she crashed as she was ghost riding backwards. Kendra insists that she did not crash (we don't see a collision, but only hear a noise). "That's editing for you!" she says exasperatedly. "No one crashed into me. That was my mom's jeep!" Kendra further clarifies: "What I did on the show was just messing around. It was on a busy street, otherwise I would have gone faster, and danced around on the hood and stuff." Her knowledge of rap music is quite evident in conversation. "I've always been a fan of hyphy music, going dumb, all that," she explains. "I like Keak da Sneak, and E-40 of course. I was going to link to the Mistah F.A.B. video on my MySpace page. I have some friends that are from Fresno and the Bay Area, and they kind of taught me how to ghost ride." In fact, Kendra says, it was Chicago Bears cornerback and Fresno native Ricky Manning Jr. who first showed her how to ghost ride the whip. But what does the man himself, Hugh Hefner, think of his girlfriend's hip antics? "I'd rather see her in the driver's seat," he grumbles good-naturedly. "Whatever, I brought hip-hop into the Playboy Mansion," Kendra laughs in reply. "I'm starting the K-Dub movement here! Sometimes it gets a little too old-school." Meanwhile, Ben Rosenberg and Nate Houghteling are pondering their next move. "I really have no idea what I'm gonna do next," Houghteling says, "but I'm sure I'll be making some more videos. I also might ghost ride my Volvo around the Coliseum to raise money for the [A's]." 2 of 2 | |||||||
