It turns out that YouTube is only for you if you're not a BYU student. The school has decided to block the popular video site on campus computers in order to "protect students from inappropriate material", and save the school's limited bandwidth for academic purposes. Now I can understand why the school doesn't want students to see inappropriate material, but if watching 50 different videos of people getting hit in the groin isn't a good use of bandwidth, then I don't know what is. Also, my apologies to all the BYU students who were unable to view the link in the previous sentence -- it was avideo of BYU alum Shawn Bradley getting dunked on repeatedly. A couple of big time football schools have run into problems with their planned stadium renovations. Cal's efforts to build a new facility on the West side of Memorial Stadium could be jeopardized by a group that claims the site is an ancient Indian burial ground. This comes just weeks after another group protested the project because it would lead to the destruction of a grove of oak trees. Meanwhile, the University of Michigan's plans to renovate Michigan Stadium could be halted by the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans Association. The group claims the school's plans are not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and they plan to file a lawsuit if Michigan doesn't change the renovation plans. Some Michigan administrators were astounded by the group's opposition, although Ohio State fans were quick to point out it's not surprising Michigan football could be shut down by a bunch of old men. In other news ... Yale hasnot had a snow day in 25 years ... Gnomes will begin appearing at Texas A&M -- note to Boston police -- they are not terrorist bombs ... The man who was run over by the Girls Gone Wild bus at the University of Iowa is suing ... Florida State athletes are living in a dorm named after Burt Reynolds ... Colleges received a record amount of donations this year. Got questions, comments, or a story idea? Email me at CampusChronicles@Gmail.com 2 of 2 | |||||||
