Welcome to this week's version of the Monday Awards, where Greg Oden's decision to leave Ohio State was based on the three point line being pushed back and there's an 82 percent approval rate for those who join the SI on Campus Facebook Group.

Team of the Week

UC Irvine. It's been a pretty solid season of spring sports for Irvine, as the golf teams both wrapped up first place in the Big West tournaments, the baseball team is 31-13 and nationally ranked, and the women's water polo squad finished 19-13 and ranked No. 10 in the country. On top of all of that, the Anteaters notched the men's volleyball championship -- the school's first title in any sport since the men's water polo team won in 1989. Irvine topped IPFW 3-1 on Saturday for their first men's volleyball title, rounding up a 29-5 season at the expense of the Mastodons. While UCI fans might be a little bummed that there's no official gear available to commemorate the men's championship, there is actually a fair alternative. Now that Anteaters head coach John Speraw is such a big name, you can buy his book Exercise for Your Muscle Type: The Smart Way to Get Fit," and watch the Amazon sales rank jump up from its present ranking of 1,119,076.

Courtney Paris Player of the Week Award

Monica Abbott, Tennessee. Abbott tacked on another NCAA record this weekend, two months after setting the record for most career wins. In a double-header against No. 1 ranked Alabama on Sunday, the senior struck out six to break Cat Osterman's record of 2,265 career Ks. She picked up her 40th win of the season in Game 1, and then earned her fifth save of the year by throwing the final three innings of Game 2. Abbott now has 2,276 strikeouts in her career.

The Recruiting Buzzkill Award

Hawaii QB Colt Brennan recently complained about the school's sub-par ability to take care of its athletes, citing broken soap dispensers and parking issues during practices. Brennan will get the opportunity to smell rank and watch his car getting towed for one more year after he opted to return for his senior year. Colt is coming off an impressive season in which he threw 58 touchdowns, but the whistle-blowing might set the team back. You don't hear Ohio State's Daequan Cook complaining about health hazards with Thad Matta putting gum back in his mouth that's been on the floor, and Pittsburgh wideout Derek Kinder hasn't complained about the small animals living in coach Dave Wannstedt's mustache for a reason. Recruiting becomes that much more difficult when the team's big name player knocks the school. In other words, Brennan ought to be careful, or else June Jones will only be able to recruit high schoolers that really, really hate showering.

The Ol' Switcheroo Award

The NCAA cracked down on several schools that failed to reach the academic progress rate this week, including the Arizona football squad and the Cincinnati basketball team, which each lost scholarships. Among those who got off with a warning was the Cal-State Northridge basketball team, or so the NCAA would have you believe. Just one day later, it was announced that a mistake had been made, and that it was the baseball team, not the basketball team that was meant to receive the warning. This prompted Northridge fans to ask themselves "we have a baseball team?"

SIOC's Bottom Three Baseball Teams

3. Air Force (8-38)

For a team that plays at an elevation of over 7,000 feet, you'd think this team would hit more than 23 homers. Their ERA is right in line with a team from Colorado, though, as the pitching staff is hovering at just over eight runs per nine innings.

2. Chicago State (3-39)

When bad teams go on the road to play good teams, let's just say those bad teams keep their losing streaks intact. K-State knocked off CSU 20-4 and 10-0 in their short two game series this week, as starting pitcher Mike Wieda fell to 2-8 on the season, and Chris Freshour lost his ninth game of the season.

1. Coppin State (0-36)

Adding insult to injury, Coppin State's baseball team was placed on "public notice" as a team subject to penalties, which serves as a warning for next year unless the squad meets the academic progress rate. If the Eagles don't pick up the pace, they'll lose scholarships, which will put a damper on a team that barely has any scholarships to begin with. The good news is that at this rate, Coppin State can't do much worse, because they just finished up the season with an 0-44 record. Some encouragement can be taken in the last two games, however, because they lost them by two and five runs respectively, which is an improvement over their typical 13 run losses.
