At a campus where one is as likely to meet a future NBA announcer as a future NBA player, Syracuse University is a fitting road trip for college sports fans. What you hear about the weather is true -- it could snow anytime from Halloween to Tax Day. But if you're willing to bear the elements, Syracuse has enough for everyone to enjoy. All it takes is the right attitude -- and appetite -- to find fun in central New York.

Best place to heckle opponents

If you're a Syracuse student and want front row seats in the student section, be prepared to camp out for a few days to earn them.

Carrier Dome's service entrance. While many stadiums/arenas have opponents sneak in entrances with Fort Knox-like security, Syracuse's opponents enter at the Carrier Dome's service entrance, which is within shouting distance of two of SU's most populated dormitories.

Best way to sit in the front row for the men's basketball

Go to a non-conference game. Courtside seats are reserved for the heavy spenders, but the front row of the student section is reserved for the most passionate -- and patient -- fans. Students camp out days before the major Big East games, and fans that arrive the day-of are relegated to overflow student seats. But the demand to see Cornell and Colgate isn't the same as Connecticut or Georgetown. Neither is the wait. So if shivering in a tent during a blizzard doesn't sound appealing, count on finding a student ticket to watch the Patriot League and not the future pros.

Best place to meet an athlete

Buses to/from South Campus. Classes and residence halls are on Syracuse's North Campus and University-owned apartment-style housing is on South Campus. In between the two campuses are the athletic complexes. Many athletes reside on South Campus, which requires a ride to reach the North Campus. SU provides busses for the commute. Even if an athlete doesn't live on South Campus, he/she often needs the bus to get to the athletic complex. So for any student looking to meet one of SU's athletes, the bus is often the best place.

Best place to meet the next Bob Costas

WAER Radio. Syracuse has produced an inordinate amount of successful sportscasters, many of whom filled the airwaves of WAER. Bob Costas and Mike Tirico are among the faces on the walls of WAER's studios. Aspiring sportscasters announce football, men's basketball and men's lacrosse games. There's also a separate department that conducts post-game call-in shows and a weekly show on issues in sports.

Best place to play snow football

The Women's Building field. Syracuse's winter snow hinders many activities, although it's a haven for fans of snow football. Thorndon Park and the field in front of the Women's Building are the two most likely places to play, although the Women's Building gets the nod because of its location. As part of the campus, the Women's Building is near most dorms and the College Place bus stop.

Best place to watch football on Sundays

Harry's. Even though Syracuse football has tradition, SU students primarily come from the Northeast, where the NFL trumps college football. For that reason, fall Sundays carry more passion than fall Saturdays. The place to watch all the games is at Harry's. The Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and both New York teams always draw strong contingents -- not to mention tense moments when the teams face each other.

Best Happy Hour

Chuck's Café. The bars in the Marshall Street area seem to change every year with some opening and others closing, but the Happy Hour at Chuck's is a destination spot. With $3 pitchers and a laid-back environment, this is the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

Best place for late-night pizza

Anywhere on Marshall Street. If you need something just to fill up the stomach to ease the next morning's hangover, Augie's is the way to go. With $1 slices, Augie's provides the food at the right price. If you're looking for a good slice in a casual setting, Acropolis Pizza combines the best of both worlds. But if you want the good food and the waitress to serve you, check out Cosmo's.

Best campus holiday

Mayfest. The name is illogical, considering Mayfest is in April. But the day that is supposed to be "a celebration of student creativity and discovery" is actually an excuse for lawn parties at SU's off-campus houses. With snow keeping students indoors for much of the second semester, Mayfest is a time to celebrate good weather and no classes a week before finals.

Best class to sit in on

Human Sexuality. The choice may sound obvious for college-aged students, but professor Joseph Fanelli makes a show of the weekly lecture. Attendance isn't taken, but students still go because of Fanelli and, well, the subject. Nothing is left unturned in this lecture, and the textbook includes everything from sexually transmitted diseases to sexual positions.

Best Carrier Dome cuisine

Hofmann Hot Dog. A popular Syracuse treat, Hoffman Hot Dogs are the best way to go when dining in the Carrier Dome. The German dogs are lighter than a normal hot dog and are best with spicy brown mustard. Plus, they beat the undercooked pizza or overpriced burgers.

Best place to eat

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. This biker spot turned campus hotspot is known for its ribs. With a special sauce and a hearty choice of sides, any visit to Syracuse often includes Dinosaur. But count on it being loud and expect a crowd. At any time, there could be a line out the door.

Best campus food court

Kimmel. For first-year students, the idea of Kimmel Food Court is mind-numbing. It's open until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and students can use their school ID, so the bill is paid by a pre-paid account and not the wallet. Plus, the food is perfect for late nights, with Sbarro, Taco Bell, Burger King and KFC, among others. If nothing else, Kimmel is a social epicenter, the place to end the night or simply go in between destinations.
