Santos maintains perfect startPosted: Monday January 22, 2007 8:48PM; Updated: Monday January 22, 2007 8:48PM RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) -- Santos maintained their perfect start to the new Brazilian season by thrashing Sertaozinho 4-1 in the Paulista championship on Monday. Former Brazil and Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's team, who beat Sao Caetano 3-0 on Saturday, have a maximum nine points from their first three games in the Paulista, the largest of the regional tournaments that kick off the season. Jonas headed Santos ahead after 19 minutes and while Paulo Santos levelled four minutes later, Pele's former club regained the lead when Fabiano scored a minute before halftime. Midfielder Cleber Santana added two more after the break, the first a penalty and the second a blistering long-range shot. Copyright 2007 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved. | |||
