Gerald Green may have won the NBA Slam Dunk contest but something tells me that Nate Robinson might have retained his crown if the Knicks had allowed him to do the dunk he had been practicing the day before the contest. In the dunk, Robinson leaps over a Playboy Bunny dealer sitting in front of a blackjack table as owner George Maloof stands by. Thanks to YouTube we can at least enjoy his practice run the day before the dunk got slammed for safety reasons. The Minnesota Twins are trying to get a finalist from American Idol to sing the national anthem before their home opener this season. They can only hope whoever they select will be better than American Idol finalist Melissa McGhee. Her rendition of the Canadian national anthem last week before a Blue Jays-Red Sox spring training game was so poor that she apologized afterwards. Despite holding the written lyrics, she butchered several lines, forgot others completely and sang out of tune. Forget about Anna Benson, New York has a new hot pitcher's (soon-to-be) wife. Yankees pitcher Carl Pavano's fiancée, Gia Allemand, has entered Maxim's 2007 Hometown Hotties contest for a shot to be featured in the magazine and for the chance to get invited to a bevy of Maxim parties. Not a bad prize but certainly something you'd think Gia could certainly parlay off the success of Pavano, if he ever stays healthy. Curt Schilling certainly lived up to his name as he was shilling his new Web site at spring training last week, according to the Boston Herald. Schilling recently founded a gaming company called Green Monster Games and handed out T-shirts to Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Okajima and Japanese media members, with the words "World Domination Through Gaming -- 38studios.com" printed in Japanese on them. Schilling also gave similar T-shirts in Spanish to his Dominican, Puerto Rican and Venezuelan teammates. It was a genius marketing plan to gain some free international advertising; but it's too bad the new site isn't up and running yet.. Quick Hits: Before Justin Timberlake's Monday night concert in Dallas, the Mavericks prepared a special jersey for JT, who worked out at the team's American Airlines practice facility before his concert according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram. ... Speaking of Timberlake, Jason Giambi told the New York Post that he was bringing sexy back to the Yankess this season. Well, sort of. "I felt kind of sexy up there today," said the first baseman after hitting a second inning home run last week. "I usually look to get hot the last week of the spring." ... Some bets are win-win and that is certainly the case with Sox president Larry Lucchino and manager Terry Francona. Lucchino, who has beaten cancer twice, has pledged to donate $20,000 to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute if Francona, an avid tobacco chewer, is able to make it through the season without using smokeless tobacco. If Francona loses he must donate $20,000 to a charity of his choice. ... NBC has made a deal with Victoria Beckham for the former Spice Girl to star in a reality series that will chronicle Mrs. David Beckham as she moves from London to Los Angeles.
