With the deal that will send Atlanta backup Matt Schaub to Houston and install him as the successor to Texans starter David Carr, the NFL's quarterback carousel has again started to turn. Here's a look at eight quarterback issues worth keeping an eye on as the offseason progresses ...

Cleveland Browns

Are the Browns really resigned to another season of having Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson as their only quarterbacking options? Don't count on it. Even if you don't believe that No. 3 Cleveland will make a move to acquire the No. 1 pick from Oakland and select LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell -- who goes back a ways with Browns GM Phil Savage -- there are those who remain convinced that Romeo Crennel's team badly wants Notre Dame's Brady Quinn. And here's some insider scoop from deep within the Quinn camp: As Quinn has made known on a number of occasions, the Browns are his top choice. No matter what Quinn says publicly, Oakland's chaotic situation is not where he wants to land, and he isn't much interested in Detroit either, given that he has heard Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz can be strange at times.

Chicago Bears

From all indications, the defending NFC champion Bears will be status quo on their quarterback depth chart in 2007. Despite his brutal moments at some points during Chicago's Super Bowl season, Rex Grossman will go apparently unchallenged for the starting spot, with Brian Griese and Kyle Orton back at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. There might not be five people in all of Chicago who think there's no need whatsoever for change at quarterback, but one of them happens to be Bears coach Lovie Smith. And he may be the only guy who really matters. As one league observer noted to me: "Lovie's locked in with Grossman. He's got his ego involved now in making Grossman his guy, and he can be stubborn about stuff like that. Nothing's happening there.''

Jacksonville Jaguars

Catching most by surprise, the Jaguars came out in February and announced that Byron Leftwich will be their unchallenged No. 1 quarterback at the start of 2007, with David Garrard serving in the backup role. That settles that, right? Maybe, but there's still speculation within the league that Leftwich, who's entering the final year of his rookie contract and last played in a game in Week 7 of 2006, could be on the move before this offseason is done. Where to? Well, Leftwich would seem a decent fit in Oakland if Russell is not the No. 1 overall draft pick. If Leftwich remains a Jaguar, obviously his chances of earning a second contract from Jacksonville hinge entirely on his performance this season.
