In our seventh and final mock draft of the first round, we're getting bold, predicting a trade between No. 8 Atlanta and No. 2 Detroit for the rights to select Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson, and laying out a scenario in which Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson lasts all the way to No. 10 Houston.

We still think JaMarcus Russell is bound for Oakland and Brady Quinn's about to become a Brown, as we've believed for weeks now. But while some names are still on the rise (Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis), others are sliding down the board as the draft looms (Michigan defensive tackle Alan Branch and Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny).

Mock NFL Draft No. 7
Pick Team Pos. Player College Class Ht. Wt.
1 QB JaMarcus Russell LSU Jr. 6-6 260
What signs have the Raiders given off to make us think they're not taking the quarterback they so obviously need? None. Then again, they haven't given off any signs at all. But the reality is this: Owner Al Davis won't trade down, and with only Andrew Walter on the quarterback depth chart and Randy Moss impossible to move, Oakland needs a passer more than a receiver.
2 WR Calvin Johnson Georgia Tech Jr. 6-5 235
TRADE: This is the spot we believe Johnson should and will go in, and all indications say the Lions are highly motivated to make the move. So too are the Falcons, whose owner, Arthur Blank, wants to create some positive buzz for a franchise that has lost its way a bit. The Bucs and Redskins might also bid for Detroit's No. 2 spot, but Atlanta will win this sweepstakes if it wants to.
3 QB Brady Quinn Notre Dame Sr. 6-4 228
I've been giving the Browns Quinn for weeks now, but this week a league source told me Cleveland decision-makers are "locked in" on the Notre Dame quarterback. After drafting the rookie quarterback that owner Randy Lerner favors, Browns GM Phil Savage and head coach Romeo Crennel need time to develop him, right? Quinn might wind up buying them some job security.
4 DE Gaines Adams Clemson Sr. 6-5 260
The Bucs would have loved to land Johnson, but they're absolutely desperate for playmakers on a rapidly aging defense. Adams makes all the sense in the world in this spot, and yet I think the Bucs would really like to trade down a few slots and take Louisville defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, who reminds Tampa Bay of a young Warren Sapp. Would Detroit deal back up to No. 4 for Adams?
5 OT Joe Thomas Wisconsin Sr. 6-8 315
A Cardinals source led me to believe that while Thomas is more NFL-ready now, Penn State offensive tackle Levi Brown will be the better pro in the long run. That means Arizona would like to deal down a few spots and get Brown plus an extra pick or two. But is anyone interested in coming up for Adrian Peterson, LaRon Landry or Okoye? That's what Arizona intends to find out on the clock.
6 DT Amobi Okoye Louisville Sr. 6-1 315
Like the Bucs and Cardinals in front of them, the Redskins are looking to shop this pick. Their hope is that someone wants Peterson at No. 6. Those suitors may include the No. 12 Bills, No. 16 Packers or the No. 8 Falcons, providing they didn't move up to No. 2 for Johnson. If the Redskins stand pat, it's either Okoye or LSU safety LaRon Landry, but Okoye is thought to have the higher upside.
7 S LaRon Landry LSU Sr. 6-2 202
If Peterson gets past No. 6, the Vikings could also entertain offers to trade down. Minnesota could easily take the ex-Sooners star, but I started hearing this week that some folks in the league don't think he's a great fit for the Vikings' West Coast offense. Minnesota would have no problem grabbing Landry and letting him develop a key role in its Cover Two defense.
8 LB Patrick Willis Mississippi Sr. 6-2 240
TRADE: The Lions love Willis and with No. 21 Denver interested in trading with No. 10 Houston in order to get a shot at him (No. 11 San Francisco and No. 12 Buffalo covet him too), Detroit doesn't think eighth is too high to take the athletically gifted Ole Miss star. Not to be redundant, but with Peterson still available, somebody like the Texans, Bills or Packers could make a move up for him.
9 OT Levi Brown Penn State Sr. 6-5 328
The Dolphins need either an offensive tackle or defensive lineman, so if they stick at No. 9 Brown represents the highest-rated available talent who also happens to fill a critical need. The Dolphins too could investigate the trade-down game with Peterson's tumble continuing.
10 RB Adrian Peterson Oklahoma Jr. 6-2 220
This could be way lower than Peterson will end up going, given that everyone from No. 5 Arizona on down could be fielding trade offers. But if he lingers, it could be karmic payback for the Texans, who endured the Reggie Bush and Vince Young dramas last year. If Peterson is long gone, and Patrick Willis is still on the board, No. 21 Denver could trade up to take him here, with Houston grabbing a corner or a receiver at 21.
