3. Which team pulled off the biggest upgrade to its running game?

Last year at this time, the Jets didn't know who was going to carry the mail for them. Curtis Martin was still sidelined by the knee woes that would lead to his eventual retirement. Kevan Barlow was still a few weeks away from being acquired from San Francisco. And youngsters Leon Washington and Cedric Houston were unproven commodities.

Skip ahead to training camp 2007 and New York has no such worries. With the addition of Thomas Jones, who was pilfered in trade from Chicago, the Jets have a tough, tenacious, 1,200-yard rusher who is well-suited to slug it out in the lousy weather that often dominates the AFC East. With Jones, Washington and Houston to run at opponents, New York has a nice blend of size, speed and versatility to complement its Chad Pennington-led passing attack and balance out a significantly enhanced Jets offense.

4. Which team made the most overrated big-name acquisition?

Our nominee traded for a starting quarterback who desperately wanted to come play for them and boasts of eye-popping numbers in his career. But that same player has question marks attached to his name given that he's coming off an injury-plagued season.

Now here's the tricky part: Are we talking about the Dolphins of last year with Daunte Culpepper, or the Dolphins of this year with Trent Green? You could make the case that Culpepper's brief stint in Miami was last year's biggest move that amounted to nothing, and I'm not quite sure why more folks aren't skeptical about Green's chances with the Fish (and yes, I see that hand back there, Jason Taylor).

Green is 37, and I still can't get over how badly he played down the stretch and in the Chiefs' first-round playoff loss at Indy. Maybe he'll have a renaissance season under new Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron -- his old Redskins QB coach -- but I say Miami's post-Marino passing miseries won't end with Green's arrival.

5. What kind of start will the Randy Moss experiment get off to in New England?

A quiet one. At least off the field. I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong if Moss doesn't put his head down, button his lip, and try like heck to assimilate into the team-first atmosphere mandated in Foxboro. Where I don't expect him to disappear is between the white lines. Quarterback Tom Brady seems more than eager to find ways to get his new playmate the ball, and I suspect the Patriots will get even more creative than usual to create mismatches for Moss to exploit.

And while we're at it, Moss may not even be the busiest of New England's new receivers. The Patriots' Wes Welker is going to be the proverbial man in motion, with Brady finding reasons to throw his way in a variety of situations.
