MLB Power Rankings
Rank LW Team
23 They've won five of their past six, they've weaseled their way up to .500 and they've turned things around against the A's. But am I a bad person if I'm not buying that this team is any good?
22 Lou Piniella keeps treating the lineup like his own personal deck of cards -- which, in a way, it is, I guess -- and he's starting to get the hands he likes. Prediction: Cubs over .500 by this time next week.
25 I won't keep praising Ian Snell, who hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his starts this year. I will say this: If the Bucs got to play Houston all season long, they'd be the greatest team ever!
21 The Josh Hancock tragedy was the capper to a terrible opening month for the World Series champs. If there's one thing that the Cardinals have learned to do, though, it's come back from adversity.
28 Joe Maddon's a perpetually sunny kind of guy, and maybe he sees things that the rest of us can't. But last year, the Rays were 11-14 after 25 games. This year: 11-14. They call this progress?
16 Maybe the Astros are right where they really want to be. This team loves to come from behind. Maybe Hunter Pence is the answer. And maybe Roger Clemens really will return to ... ahhh, forget it.
26 GM Jon Daniels said the team would wait on Brandon McCarthy (1-4, 9.90 ERA). Daniels just didn't want to have to wait. And, by the way, what's holding up shortstop Michael Young (.214)?
27 The Rocks still haven't won a series since the season opener against the D'backs. That's a whole lot of losing for a team supposedly on the rise. Supposedly, I guess, being the operative word.
29 I'm declaring a moratorium on Gil Meche cheapshots, considering five of his six starts have been considered "quality" ones. I warn you, though. It makes things a lot less fun around here.
30 They scored! In the first inning Friday, the Nationals scored a run, something they hadn't done in their first 22 games. Fireworks went off. People cried. They won. And then they lost their next two.
