21 Chris Carpenter gets closer to returning every day, and with the trade for Mike Maroth, and the possible return later on of Mark Mulder, the Cards could be fine come September. If they can hold on 'til then.
22 The defense has slid since Adam Everett broke his leg -- or Carlos Lee broke Everett's leg. Brad Lidge is hurt. Lee is hitting .226 this month, with just two homers. See why this team needs Biggio 3,000 so much?
24 If the Astros up and fold their tents after Biggio does his thing, what will the Giants do after Barry Bonds passes Hank Aaron? My guess is that they'll keep on losing, too. They seem to do that very well.
25 Know who has the best record in the NL East this month? OK, you're right. Philly. But the Nationals' 10-11 record in June is second-best. It's worth at least a little bump up in the PRs.
27 The firing of Sam Perlozzo offered a temporary lift, but nobody's being fooled here. "If you don't have enough good players," ex-skipper Perlozzo said, "you are not going to be a good team."
23 GM Kenny Williams seems ready to blow this thing up, and he should. He's already shown the team's scouting director the door. Mark Buehrle and Jermaine Dye (though he's hurt) may not be far behind.
26 "I [expletive] hate this," pitcher Ian Snell told the Post-Gazette. "I [expletive] hate losing. I hate when the team doesn't bring out its full potential." Now he knows how fans feel.
29 The Rangers won a season-high four in a row last week which, for good teams, is like a nine-game streak. Should they be ranked higher than the Astros? Well, maybe. And maybe they should aim higher.
28 Things started off so promising for lefty Jorge de la Rosa. But he's 0-6 in his last seven starts with a 9.90 ERA. Which, when you think about it, is how many people figured he would start. So we're even.
30 The Ken Griffey Jr. reunion in Seattle was nice and all, but it's a bit of a slap in the face to his hometown when he says he wants to end his career in Seattle. Junior, you can go home again. It won't be the same, though.
