MLB Power Rankings
Rank LW Team
21 Just for the record: In 22 games since hitting No. 756 to pass Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds is hitting .271 with six homers and a 1.015 OPS. He can still play. But can he still play in San Francisco?
25 They're playing better than anyone could have imagined, and that's got to make the Phillies and Mets a little nervous. The Nats' final 13 games of the season are all against New York and Philadelphia.
23 Nice debut by rookie Joey Votto. In his first start on Wednesday, he had three hits, including a home run. He has hit in every game since then, too, with another home run on Saturday. Go ahead and look to '08, Reds' fans.
22 They don't want to get too worked up over this, but with 62 wins already, the Royals (probably) won't lose 100 games for the fourth straight year. That's nice. But it's probably best to keep the champagne on ice.
27 Owner Bob Nutting, who canned GM Dave Littlefield last week after seven losing seasons, is trying to "change the culture" in Steel City. If the Bucs keep losing in '07, he may have to change the manager, too.
24 If the Astros' players like interim manager Cecil Cooper -- and, by all accounts, they do -- they're not doing him any favors. Houston is 4-8, including a current five-game skid, since Cooper took over for Phil Garner.
30 An extension for skipper Joe Maddon, 12 wins in their past 16 games, five straight series wins ... "Right now, it looks like it's the start of something," Carl Crawford told the St. Pete Times.
29 A couple of home runs last week has Jim Thome two shy of the magic 500 for his career. See? If you try hard enough, you can find something nice to say about even the worst teams in the league.
28 Hothead Dan Cabrera threw at Boston's Dustin Pedroia on Saturday night, sparking a near on-field riot. It was, sadly, the most compelling thing to happen in Camden Yards since Cal left.
26 Saturday in Philly, skipper-turned-analyst Joe Girardi bumped into his old team in a happy reunion. Sunday, Dontrelle Willis lost again (1-12, 5.59 ERA in his last 19 starts). Ahhh, the Girardi Year. Those were the days, eh?
