PHILADELPHIA -- Elliot Williams couldn't believe his eyes. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl, Virginia coach Dave Leito and Memphis assistant Derek Kellogg were in attendance for Williams' game on Monday night at the Reebok U camp and watched the St. George's (Collierville, Tenn.) shooting guard's every move. Less than 12 months ago, they didn't know who he was.

Last year at the ABCD camp in Teaneck, N.J., Williams was a fill-in player, earning his way onto the same roster as O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker only after another camper was injured. While Mayo and Walker took the majority of the shots and garnered national attention, Williams had a front row seat for the circus that encircled his all-Star teammates.

"It's ridiculous that those coaches are here watching me now because last year I counted them in the stands and watched them taking notes about my teammates," says Williams, who lists Memphis, Duke, Tennessee and Virginia as his final four list of college choices. "I barely touched the ball, but those coaches are familiar to me now."

From alternate to all-Star, Williams has watched his name rise through the recruiting rankings. After leading St. George's to a Tennessee state tournament run that included a win over traditional power Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy before falling in the state championship game, Williams has continued to flourish. In the last month, his stock rose with his performance at the NBA players association camp in Charlottesville, Va.

"There are more calls, more contacts from recruiters," says Williams, who took an unofficial to Duke in the spring while he was in North Carolina for the Boo Williams Invitational Tournament. "Hopefully that will continue."

Williams looks like Gumby with a jump shot, using his sinewy frame to maneuver through double teams, at times, while backing up for fade away jumpers at others. On Monday night, playing against Ohio State recruit William Buford, the top-rated shooting guard in camp, Williams showcased his repertoire. Ever the aggressor, Williams pushed the ball at every opportunity, as opposed to Buford, who operates with an assassin's coldness. "Buford's a deadly shooter. You can't give him any room to shoot," says Williams. "I mean, any room."
