NBA Power Rankings
Rank LW Team
20 Brandon Roy led the way as they downed the Kings on Friday to snap a five-game losing skid. The reigning Rookie of the Year is off to another strong start, averaging 18.9 points (on 47.1 percent shooting), 3.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 37.7 minutes per game.
22 They're hoping Darko Milicic (sprained thumb) can get back on the court soon. The 7-foot center was playing well before his injury, averaging 10.3 points (on 50.7 percent shooting), 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 29 minutes per game. Of course, he was still bricking his free throws (48.3 percent).
14 The loss of Gilbert Arenas (knee surgery) for at least three months looks like a killer blow, especially after they had just won six straight to get back on track. Antawn Jamison (41 points in Saturday's loss to the Grizzlies) will have to keep up his red-hot start if they are to stay afloat.
25 Despite their struggles, they have to be encouraged by Dwyane Wade's showing so far in his return from elbow and knee injuries. The All-Star guard had 32 points, six rebounds and six assists in Saturday's loss to the Magic. Over his first six games he is averaging 23 points and six assists.
26 They're hoping a five-game homestand can get them back on track after having lost three straight at week's end. But the competition looks brutal, with the Spurs (Mon.), Warriors (Wed.) and Rockets (Sat.) up this week, followed by the Jazz and Clippers the following week.
24 Not even the return of Luol Deng (back spasms) could prevent Sunday's loss in Toronto as they finished 1-5 on their annual circus road trip. The good news is they now get to play seven of their next 10 at the United Center, so maybe the home rims will help cure those shooting woes.
27 Look for the Andre Miller trade talk to pick up steam in the weeks ahead. With Louis Williams emerging, there just isn't much reason for them to hang on to the veteran point guard. If some team is willing to give them a good young prospect and/or draft picks for Miller, GM Billy King would have to consider it.
28 They downed the Bulls at home on Saturday to snap an eight-game losing skid and temporarily quiet those chants of "Fire Isiah!" But with the Jazz, Celtics, Bucks and Suns up next, the seat under coach/president Isiah Thomas figures to stay warm for awhile.
29 Their 2-12 record matches their worst start since their inaugural season of 1967-68. They are also 0-6 at Key Arena, their worst home start ever. At least they will get a chance to break that skid with their next five games at home, including Wednesday's return of Rashard Lewis and his Magic.
30 They blew a 21-point lead to lose to the Hawks on Saturday, giving the franchise its worst start (1-10) since the '94-95 club (1-13). With their next three games at New Orleans, Dallas and at home against San Antonio, they will be hard-pressed to avoid matching that dubious mark.
