3. Brady's so clearly the leader of the pack it's not even debatable. "Tom's so competitive that you don't want to mess up around him,'' said Stallworth. "He's playing like he's trying to make the ballclub -- even here in the spring. He's so serious. He figures we don't have much time out here and he's not going to waste any of it.'' 4. Gut feeling: Moss is going to keep his nose clean, shut up, and stick everyone's negative opinions about him (including mine) where the sun don't shine. 5. Harrison, recovered from his broken shoulder blade seven months ago, is running free and easy. He didn't look 34 last week. 6. I still worry about the defense's ability to get off the field on third down. Particularly against Peyton Manning. They're not alone, of course. But it's dangerous when you know your offense is probably going to have to score in the high 30s to beat anyone, and that's how I see New England's chances against Indy right now. One final Patriots note: the dumbest thing you could write about New England right now is that owner Bob Kraft, coach Bill Belichick and personnel veep Scott Pioli are loading up for one last Super Bowl run. I don't know how long Belichick is going to coach, but it's not like he signed a bunch of Roger Clemenses. Moss is 30 and may be past the midpoint of his career, but other additions like Stallworth, Welker and Adalius Thomas are basically at their prime. "This program's not falling off anytime soon,'' Harrison said. Quote of the Week I"We have to break our dependence on foreign oil.'' Classic A.J. Within 15 minutes, the conscience-ravaged A.J. is driving a new BMW without a care in the world, except where the next pizza's coming from. Quote of the Week II"If I'm just a guy down the street and I pick up a newspaper and I see it, I think it's a circus. It's not a circus around here.'' Quote of the Week III"Jeff Garcia is far and away the best quarterback on our team at this point. He's a playmaker, he's accurate, and he's a fireball. I think Chris Simms is a good player, but two of the last three seasons he's had serious injuries. Right now, he's not in rhythm.'' Quote of the Week IV"When I get these opportunities, I choke them to death.'' Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only MeMatt Leinart may yet prove he's a pretty fair quarterback, but so far in Phoenix some might say he's a better hitter than thrower. The other day he took batting practice at Chase Field -- 330 down the lines, 374 to the power alleys -- and hit three out of the ballpark. Aggravating/Enjoyable Travel Note of the WeekIt warms my heart to see Holsten's, one of the finest luncheonettes and ice-cream shops in the land, get the attention it deserves. Monday morning at 5:40, as I drove by Holsten's, in neighboring Bloomfield, on my way to a dropoff at Newark Airport, a New York TV station was going live outside Holsten's, capitalizing on the Sopranos finale mania. The last scene of this great show was filmed there a couple of month ago. My recommendation: Make Holsten's a summer stop this year and order the cheeseburger, a vanilla shake, with a cup of vanilla chip for dessert. I guarantee you will thank me. All you Soprano watchers will appreciate this: Seven years ago, for a Sports Illustrated story, I interviewed Michael Strahan in the same booth that Tony, Carm and A.J. ended an era Sunday night. Stat of the WeekTrent Green's deal with the Dolphins seems very fair ... maybe a little too fair for a 36-year-old guy who ended last year on such shaky ground with the Chiefs. He'll make $6 million this year, with an extra $2.45 million in incentives based on the Dolphins going far into the playoffs and Green playing at least 75 percent of the snaps. Here's an interesting fact: Green will be cheaper than Culpepper would have been, had the Dolphins chose to stick with the former Vike. This year, minus incentives, Green's $6 million is $500,000 less than what Culpepper was set to make. And over the three years of Green's contract, if he stays, he'll make $13.5 million; Culpepper would have made $17.5 million. When you think of the deal in that way -- considering the comfort level Cam Cameron has with Green (they bonded as assistant and backup while with the Redskins) and that Cameron did not have with Culpepper, this is a logical signing. But it won't be very logical if the Dolphins have to play Cleo Lemon while paying Green $6 million.
