Monday Morning QB (cont.)Posted: Monday October 15, 2007 4:29AM; Updated: Monday October 15, 2007 1:46PM The Fine Fifteen
1. New England (6-0). Is Tom Brady of this world? He and Peyton Manning, set for a showdown 20 days from today, could never play another snap and both would be first-ballot Hall-of-Famers. 2. Indianapolis (5-0). Banged-up Colts got the bye at the perfect time. They'll have an extra day next week before a Monday-nighter at Jacksonville. 3. Pittsburgh (4-1). Tough trifecta after the bye: at desperate Denver, at probably desperate Cincinnati and Baltimore at the Ketchup Bottle. 4. Dallas (5-1). The 21-point loss to New England wasn't a sign the Cowboys are not ready for prime time. It's a sign the Patriots are one of the best football teams ever assembled. 5. Green Bay (5-1). "How in the hell can we be doing what we're doing?'' Brett Favre said via cell phone Sunday night. "We can't put anybody away.'' But what the Packers can do is hang in with good teams and be very tough to put away. 6. San Diego (3-3). Thanks for coming to your coaching senses, Norv, and giving the ball endlessly to LaDainian Tomlinson. 7. Jacksonville (4-1). Good to see Maurice Jones-Drew get going. Still having a good year (54 carries, 307 yards, 5.7 a carry); but if he catches fire like he did Sunday, he's going to be playing deep into January. 8. Tampa Bay (4-2). We still don't know much about this team, except this: A team with an efficient, mistake-free quarterback and an attacking defense is going to be in every game it plays. 9. Carolina (4-2). Vinny Testaverde: Story of the Year. 10. Tennessee (3-2). Nice time to be a Tennessean. Al Gore wins the Nobel Prize on Friday, Vols beat up Mississippi State on Saturday. The Titans almost took care of the resurgent Bucs on Sunday. Tennessee's still 9-3 in its last 12, even with the loss to Tampa Bay. 11. New York Giants (3-2). Now this is going to be an interesting sight tonight -- watching two first-time NFL tackles trying to stem the Giants' pass-rush. Renardo Foster vs. Osi Umenyiora. Tyson Clabo vs. Michael Strahan. This is not going to be a fun night for the Georgia Domers. 12. Washington (3-2). The D has given up five touchdowns in five games. "That's as good a defense as we've seen this year,'' Favre said. 13. Baltimore (4-2). The defense might be coming around. It's surrendered 10 points in the last two weeks. 14. Kansas City (3-3). Chiefs are 3-1 in their last four, and Larry Johnson is getting hot. And the defense is tied for the league lead with 19 sacks. 15. Detroit (3-2). I can't really put them here, can I? A week after calling them frauds and meaning it? Yes, I can. There's no one else.
