The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could still be working on improving their team today, in the wake of their late-Monday deal for running back Michael Bennett.

Terms of the deal have been finalized with the Bucs sending the Chiefs a second-day draft pick and K.C. sending Tampa Bay a lesser pick along with Bennett.

The NFL trading deadline is today at 4 p.m.

It's still possible, though unlikely, that Tampa Bay could make another deal before the deadline. The Bucs had a lot of lines in the water for running backs around the league, and they still might do something to add to their running back depth if the asking price for one of the backs they like falls precipitously this afternoon.

But they won't pay a ransom for a running back now that they have Bennett -- who passed his physical in Tampa today -- because they feel like injured backup Michael Pittman will be ready to return to action when the Bucs come off their bye Nov. 18 at Atlanta.

Stay tuned. I don't' expect anything else, but we'll see as the afternoon wears on.

Bennett, a former first-round pick of the Vikings in 2001, has rushed for 3,426 yards and 12 touchdowns in 81 career games.

"We believe that the addition of Michael Bennett will strengthen our running back position," Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said in a statement.

The 5-for-9, 207-pound Bennett was a Pro Bowl selection in 2002 with the Vikings, but injuries have prevented him from realizing his potential as a pro. He played sparingly for the Chiefs as a backup to Larry Johnson.

Tampa Bay lost Williams, the 2005 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, with a season-ending knee injury three weeks ago.
