Last week SI writer Richard Deitsch interviewed John Cusack for the magazine's Q&A. The actor and diehard Chicago sports fan stars in 1408. Here are additional excerpts from their conversation:

SI: What makes Chicago sports fans different?

Cusack: Endurance. What did [Charles] Bukowski write? "Anybody can be a nondrunk but it takes a special talent to be a drunk." It takes endurance. But the Sox did win it so half of the curse is gone.

SI: Word association: I say Lou Piniella, you say?

Cusack: World Series manager. But that's three words.

SI: Alfonso Soriano?

Cusack: World Series MVP.

SI: This year?

Cusack: Cubs fans are always falling forward.

SI: You can trade places with one athlete for one day, who are you are why?

Cusack: It would either be Ali in Zaire, George Foreman against Michael Moorer or Buster Douglas against Mike Tyson in Tokyo. Of course, for the great fights, you want to be both guys but come out the winner.

SI: Are you friends with any athletes?

Cusack: Chris Chelios is one of my oldest and dearest friends.

SI: But you stopped being a serious Blackhawks fan the day they traded Chelios, right?

Cusack: Yeah, I'm very old-school and loyal to my friends. If he ever goes back to the Blackhawks I'd be happy, and I'd root for the team again. But as long as he is still playing, I'm with Cheli. It's the only time I ever turned my back on a Chicago team.

SI: The Cubs just won the World Series. Tell me how you are spending the next 24 hours?

Cusack: I'd be in Chicago, in the middle of the muck, and there would be five or six bars I would go to. I'd attend the parade the next day. Then I would prepare for the next life because I think it may signal the end of all things.

SI: You've written for the Huntington Post. Would you ever consider writing a sports blog?
