• I'm hearing more and more people speculate that Ohio State is having chemistry issues between its seniors and its freshmen.

• Ask me why Louisville is playing so well all of a sudden, and I'll answer in three words: They're finally healthy.

• The more I watch USC play, the more I believe Taj Gibson is the Trojans' most important player. Not best -- most important.

• I still like Marquette, but its guards simply do not shoot it nearly as well as they need to. If and when the Golden Eagles lose in the NCAA tournament, it will be because they shot less than 30 percent from beyond the arc.

• If Hasheem Thabeet tries to enter the NBA draft, he should have his head examined.

• Something I only learned about the BracketBuster this year: the games include a guarantee that the teams will meet again next season on the visiting team's home floor. For teams that have such a hard time filling out their schedule, that makes it a pretty good deal.

• If you're North Carolina, and you think of yourself as a team that can win the whole thing, and you're playing a home conference game against a team that beat you once, and you lose the game, you might in the dark recesses of your mind wonder whether you're really a team that can win the whole thing.

• I honestly cannot remember a year when Notre Dame didn't enter this stage of the season as a bubble team.

Josh Heytvelt's suspension at Gonzaga is absolutely devastating. Not only does it hurt the Zags' chances of winning the West Coast Conference, but if he's not back for the NCAA tournament, the committee has to judge them on who they are without him. That makes Saturday's home game against Memphis absolutely critical to Gonzaga's at-large chances.

• Don't discount the possibility that the Mountain West will get four bids.

• Or that the Big Ten will get three.

• Reason No. 437 to believe Florida will repeat: Joakim Noah is shooting just 64.9 percent this season from the free throw line, but he is 18 for 22 his last five games.

• Anybody who thinks Washington State is not an athletic team hasn't seen Ivory Clark play.

• If Air Force makes the Sweet 16, America is going to love getting to know Dan Nwaelele.

• You may recall that when Mike Krzyzewski was sidelined with exhaustion following his back surgery in 1995, the losses Duke suffered were charged not to Coach K's record but that of his assistant, Pete Gaudet. (Gaudet learned of the switch by reading about it in USA Today.) When asked by a reporter about that last week, Coach K replied, "I think I should have been credited with all the losses." He's right, and hopefully Duke will now do the right thing and officially correct the record both internally and with the NCAA.
