If you're Jeff Tedford, you've got to be pleased your team put up 45 points on Tennessee despite just four catches for 45 yards from DeSean Jackson. The Bears have a lot of other weapons, one of whom, freshman RB Jahvid Best, may eventually become the most dangerous of all.
Last game: Beat Tennessee, 45-31.
Next game: Saturday at Colorado State.

One should never read too much into a game against Buffalo, but for a team that's been missing a big-time receiving threat for so long, how can you not be encouraged by Tiquan Underwood's 10-catch, 248-yard performance? It managed to trump Ray Rice's 184-yard rushing night.
Last game: Beat Buffalo 38-3.
Next game: Friday vs. Navy.

Saturday's opener against Nevada was supposed to be Sam Keller's grand unveiling but instead turned into the Marlon Lucky Show. The junior I-back exploded for 233 yards and three TDs on 30 carries. He'll face some stiffer run defenses the next two weeks in Wake Forest and ... umm, USC.
Last game: Beat Nevada, 52-10.
Next game: Saturday at Wake Forest.

This has to be the first time in Power Rankings history that I've penalized a team for a loss by its rival. I was already uncomfortable placing OSU so high, and if Michigan was that overrated, the Buckeyes probably aren't far behind. Plus, Chris Wells only ran for 46 on Youngstown State.
Last game: Beat Youngstown State, 38-6.
Next game: Saturday vs. Akron.

Ian Johnson (128 yards, three TDs) and the Broncos cruised against Weber State, but next come three legitimate threats to Boise's 14-game winning streak: Washington (with budding QB starJake Locker), Wyoming (which just throttled Virginia) and Southern Miss (a perennial bowl team).
Last game: Beat Weber State, 56-7.
Next game: Saturday at Washington.

With all the debate about how high Appalachian State would rank if it played in I-A, how far down do you think Florida International would place in I-AA? Anthony Morelli broke a school record with 231 first-half passing yards and JoePa's team scored the third shutout in its last six games.
Last game: Beat Florida International, 59-0.
Next game: Saturday vs. Notre Dame. |

Think Tom O'Brien's kicking himself just a little? While his new team, NC State, got beat by UCF last weekend, his former team scored an impressive ACC win over Wake Forest behind Matt Ryan's career-high 408 passing yards (most since Doug Flutie). So of course, now O'Brien has to face him.
Last game: Beat Wake Forest, 38-28.
Next game: Saturday vs. NC State.

The Razorbacks know they need to add at least a modest passing complement to Darren McFadden. Against Troy last week, the answer came from ... Darren McFadden, whose 42-yard touchdown pass (to go along with 151 rushing yards) trumped any throw Casey Dick made.
Last game: Beat Troy, 46-26.
Next game: Sept. 15 at Alabama.

We knew the Bruins were likely to field another impressive defense. What we did not anticipate was an offense capable of racking up 624 yards on anyone, Stanford included. But they did, thanks in large part to QB Ben Olson's best performance to date (16-of-29, 286 yards, five TDs, no INTs).
Last game: Beat Stanford, 45-17.
Next game: Saturday vs. BYU.

You knew it. I knew it. Apparently even the coach knew it. "We knew we were going to struggle on offense," Tommy Tuberville said after the Tigers went 58 minutes without a touchdown against Kansas State. Something tells me suspended RB Brad Lester isn't the only thing missing.
Last game: Beat Kansas State, 23-13.
Next game: Saturday vs. South Florida.
