21 -- The Bearcats in the BCS? What seemed like utter fantasy only a couple of years ago could become a real possibility if Brian Kelly's team knocks off West Virginia at home on Saturday. Cincy would still need Connecticut to lose another game but holds the tiebreaker after last week's rout.
Last game: Beat Connecticut, 27-3.
Next game: Saturday vs. West Virginia.
22 17 Three key questions hover over the Wolverines heading into Saturday's make-or-break showdown with Ohio State: Will this be Lloyd Carr's last game as coach at Michigan Stadium? Will RB Mike Hart be ready to carry the load? And will QB Chad Henne be able to play? My hunches: Yes, yes and no.
Last game: Lost to Wisconsin, 37-21.
Next game: Saturday vs. Ohio State.
23 23 At some point last Saturday, the Wildcats became mathematically eliminated from a chance at a division title (the SEC East is down to Tennessee, Georgia and Florida), but they still have a chance to play in their first New Year's bowl in nine years by winning at least one of their last two.
Last game: Beat Vanderbilt, 27-20.
Next game: Saturday at Georgia.
24 24 The Broncos moved up to 15th in the two BCS human polls this week (much too high, in my opinion, for a team that lost handily to 3-7 Washington) and 18th in the overall standings, raising the possibility of a return to one of the BCS bowls should it beat Hawaii and move into the top 12.
Last game: Beat Utah State, 52-0.
Next game: Saturday vs. Idaho.
25 16 The Huskies endured a sobering return to reality at Cincinnati, as their running game managed just 22 yards and their previously stingy defense allowed Bearcats QB Ben Mauk to throw for 276 yards and three TDs. Fortunately, they've got Syracuse this week to help regain their confidence.
Last game: Lost to Cincinnati, 27-3.
Next game: Saturday vs. Syracuse.
Dropped out: Auburn, Florida State, Alabama.
