If this whole move to America doesn't work out, Becks can always fall back on his second career as a British Airways flight attendant.

It's been two weeks, and David Beckham's move to a Galaxy far, far away is still the talk of the town in England. But which town?

"Beckham signed a contract with another club before talking to Real Madrid and I think this is a bad thing ... It's not just Fabio Capello who is saying this. The whole club has seen that at this moment we can't count on him."
-- Tantrum-prone Real Madrid coach Capello

"It is necessary to be flexible sometimes. Beckham is a great professional who always trains with a great desire. Ideas can be changed."
-- Capello again, following an injury to first-choice right midfielder José Maria "Guti" Gutierrez and a team protest in support of Beckham.

"Of course there is resentment ... On the one hand you would say more power to him but on the other hand you think why can't I be earning that?"
-- L.A. Galaxy midfielder Peter Vagenas

"Whenever you have someone who has transcended their field and is famous on the world stage, they are a 'get.' He'll be invited to everything under the sun in this town with his wife, who is famous in her own right. This was a town where Gretzky was a big get and this is not a hockey town nor is it a big soccer town. But that won't matter. In L.A., they are crazy for celebrity."
-- Leading Hollywood publicist Tony Angelotti

"I don't think there was any chance of him coming back to England having played for us. I think deep down he was always a United fan and I don't think there was any chance of him coming back to another English club."
-- Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson

"Potentially, Becks could be a god out here and change the face of soccer forever if he's successful. It may open the door for others and bring in the high quality we need. If he isn't a success, then it could kill the game."
-- Ex-Man United player Billy Garton

Also crossing the pond is Captain America himself, Claudio Reyna. With his wife pregnant, Reyna persuaded Manchester City to terminate his contract in order to sign with the New York Red Bulls and reunite himself with former U.S. coach Bruce Arena.

"Claudio is a proven player at the highest levels in the game, and his experience and leadership skills will improve our team" announced Arena, before noting that "Captain America's alter-ego Steve Rogers is also a seasoned pro, and that giant metal shield could be used to great effect in the defense." At least, we wish he had.

Aside from his personal motivations, Reyna's move is well-timed. Now in the twilight of a career in which his body has endured numerous injuries and a grueling international schedule, Reyna was beginning to suffer in the high-tempo Premier League, rarely playing a full 90 minutes. His work ethic, excellent positioning and the unselfish role he plays in breaking up the opponents play should serve the Red Bulls well.
