The Mets are signing reliever Al Reyes today, SI.com has confirmed. Reyes will sign a minor-league deal and report to the minors with the hope he can work his way up and help the Mets' beleaguered bullpen.

The Mets are especially concerned following a diagnosis for closer Billy Wagner's elbow on Wednesday that suggests he may not pitch again this season. Reyes has been struggling this year but has closing experience.

Reyes could become a candidate to close for the Mets. However, Aaron Heilman is expected to get the first crack to replace Wagner, who is said to have elbow pain and swelling.

Reyes has spent 13 years in the majors with seven teams, most recently the Tampa Bay Rays. He went 2-2 in 26 games out of the bullpen for the Rays this year before being released. He has 32 career saves, including 26 for the Rays in 2007.
