TCU beats another No. 3, moves up to No. 19 in latest AP poll

TCU is making a habit of knocking off highly ranked opponents and shaking up the Top 25.

For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs beat a No. 3 team in The Associated Press poll when they surprised California 82-73 on Sunday. TCU, which beat then-No. 3 Maryland in its season opener, moved up to No. 19 in this week's poll.

Meanwhile, Connecticut remained a unanimous choice as the top team Monday. The Huskies received all 45 first-place votes for the second straight week after routing Holy Cross. North Carolina stayed at No. 2.

With Cal's loss, Stanford moved up to No. 3, followed by Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

Texas jumped three spots to No. 6 after beating Mississippi. The Longhorns play No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday.

With this week's ranking, the Lady Vols now have 500 appearances in the Top 10. Louisiana Tech is second on the list with 373, UConn third at 267, and Stanford fourth at 264.

Notre Dame stayed unbeaten after topping Purdue on Sunday, and climbed to No. 8. Cal fell to ninth and Baylor remained in 10th.

Duke, Louisville, Auburn, and Rutgers each moved up a place while Maryland fell seven spots to 15th after its loss to Pittsburgh, which moved up eight places to No. 16.

"This is the biggest win in our program's history," Pitt coach Agnus Berenato told the crowd after the game.

Virginia moved up three places to 17th. Ohio State remained 18th, followed by TCU at No. 19 -- it's highest ranking since March 8, 2004. Vanderbilt fell four places to No. 20 after losing to UC Riverside.

The Horned Frogs would have been ranked higher had they not blown an 18-point lead Friday in a loss at Fresno State.

"This team has bounced back well," TCU coach Jeff Mittie said. "We talked about the opportunity against a top 5 team. We've never beaten a top five team on the road."

Purdue, Arizona State, Florida, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State rounded out the Top 25. The Gators entered the poll for the first time since Feb. 27, 2006.

Xavier and Michigan State fell out of the poll. The Musketeers lost to rival Cincinnati and the Spartans were beaten by both Georgia Tech and St. Bonaventure.
