GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida forward Adam Allen had arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and could be out for the season. Allen had surgery to relieve a condition called chondromalacia patella, better known as "runner's knee," and coach Billy Donovan said he expected the 6-foot-8 sophomore to take a medical redshirt this season. "Right now, the feeling for us and for Adam is that he would use this year to redshirt," Donovan said following Florida's 78-57 win over Stetson. "By some reason if there was a miraculous recovery and he was able to get back and in some way through practice was able to show us that he could help our team and he wanted to play, then we would play him." "We have no anticipation as a staff that he's going to be back this year." Allen, who averaged 4.0 points as a freshman, was expected to play a more significant role for the Gators this year. But he suffered a stress fracture in his left leg during practice Oct. 24 and hasn't been able to do any conditioning drills since. He developed scar tissue behind his knee cap, which recently started rubbing and causing pain. The surgery was expected to clean out the area. "I would say right now he's probably done for the year," Donovan said. Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
