Former Stanford and Golden State Warriors coach Mike Montgomery will be named the head coach at Cal reports SI.com's Seth Davis.

Montgomery replaces Ben Braun, who was fired last Wednesday after reaching the NCAA tournament only once in the past five years.

At Stanford, Montgomery compiled a 393-167 record in 18 seasons that included 12 NCAA tournament appearances, including a Final Four run in 1998, and four NIT appearances. He left Stanford as the winningest coach in Cardinal history in 2004 to coach Golden State, where he had a 68-96 record.

Montgomery takes over a Cal team that finished ninth in the Pac-10 with a 17-16 overall record. On Thursday sophomore forward Ryan Anderson announced he was declaring for the draft without hiring an agent.
