On the strength of five straight wins, the Owls appear destined for a Texas Bowl date with Notre Dame on Dec. 30. No matter what the future holds, though, Chase Clement made history last Saturday in Rice's 35-10 win over Marshall. In throwing four touchdowns, he passed former Tulsa player Paul Smith to become Conference USA's all-time leader in passing touchdowns (89) and overall touchdowns (114).

Welcome to the 26-119 rankings, Tigers. After losing to three ranked SEC foes (Florida, Georgia, Alabama), Les Miles' crew nearly lost to Troy two weeks ago, but rallied back for the win. Last Saturday against Ole Miss, though, quarterback Jevan Snead and the Rebels delivered LSU's comeuppance. The 31-13 loss dropped the defending champs to 3-4 in the SEC with the last game coming against Arkansas this weekend. Far from the muddled mess of the BCS title picture, the Tigers will need a win just even out their SEC performances. What a difference a year makes.

The "Blackshirts" -- the traditional garb of Husker aggression which had been absent the season's first 10 weeks -- re-entered the defense's wardrobe two weeks ago, and Lincoln fans can only hope brighter days follow under first-year coach Bo Pelini. Though they lost games to Big 12 powers like Oklahoma and Missouri, Pelini's players have a chance to improve their standing against traditional Thanksgiving weekend opponent Colorado on Friday. A win and the Huskers could reunite with 1994 Orange Bowl opponent Miami in the Gator Bowl. With Nebraska still rebuilding, signs of the past bring back favorable memories.

Leading into the season, Saturday's match against Boise State on the blue turf appeared promising and was billed as an intriguing battle between two of the WAC's top teams. The Bulldogs played well early in the season, knocking off Rutgers and challenging Wisconsin before unexpectedly losing to Louisiana Tech and Nevada down the stretch. Now at season's end, the Broncos are charging ahead to a possible perfect season while the Bulldogs can only try to play spoiler. Forever using the upstart card, Pat Hill's team could be most dangerous in their current position.
