SUNRISE, Fla. -- Some five hours before Ken Shamrock was set to meet Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson in Saturday's EliteXC main event on CBS, Florida State Athletic Commission doctors pulled Shamrock from the card upon determining a cut along his left eyebrow was too severe for him to fight.

"He received six sutures in the eyebrow," said Dr. Alan Fields of the FSAC. "He explained that he wanted to fight, however for his safety, we have rules. Anyone with a recent laceration cannot go participate in a fight."

Florida's Seth Petruzelli (9-4), originally scheduled to challenge Aaron Rosa on the undercard at the BankAtlantic Center, has been tabbed to replace Shamrock (26-13-2).

During an interview that played inside the arena, Shamrock expressed disappointment for the commission's decision, which came, he said, after an old cut opened up during a "light workout."

It was "nice and easy," said Shamrock.
