Your guide to the weekend, SIOC style.

Friday

NBA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Springfield Mass., 5 p.m., NBA TV
Patrick Ewing got the best of Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1984 NCAA Championship Game. The Dream got his revenge 10 years later in the 1994 NBA Finals. On Friday the two of them will be inducted together. Also entering the Hall is the one and only Dick Vitale. Bookies are currently laying 5-4 odds on Vitale crying while using a word nobody's ever heard before.

Lecture of the Week: "Garbage Maps, Neighborhood Atlases and Counter Cartography," UNC, 7 p.m.
You never knew cartography could be so interesting. Let out your inner Magellan and learn about the exciting new directions of the mapmaking industry.

Saturday

NCAA Football: Miami (OH) at Michigan, 12 p.m.
Don't worry Wolverines fans, your fearless coach has a plan to save the team. On Wednesday, Rich Rodriguez and his staff held an open tryout for anyone at the school. As the old adage goes, "If you can't win with the 80 highly recruited players already on your roster, go find more."

15th Annual Magic in the Rockies Convention, Colorado State

A Celebration of Red Grange, University of Illinois, 4:30 p.m.
Two authors who penned books on the Galloping Ghost will be in Champaign to discuss his storied life. For many Illini football fans it will remind them of a simpler time when the best high school players in Illinois didn't go to Michigan or Ohio State.

15th Annual Magic in the Rockies Convention, Colorado State
More than 300 Magicians will make the trek to Fort Collins for this yearly festival. Perhaps some of the magic will rub off on Division I-AA Sacramento State, who's in town looking to upset the Rams.

B.J. Novak Zach Galifianakis at the University of Rochester, 9 p.m.
The man behind Ryan, the intern/executive/felon on The Office, had to back out due to illness (mono?, pregnancy?), but the hilarious Galifianakis will fill in. Galifianakis might not have the name recognition of Novak, but he does have a much more impressive beard.

Sunday

NCAA Water Polo: UC San Diego Triton Invitational Title Game, 4:10 p.m.
Fourteen teams (10 of which are ranked in the top 20) descend upon San Diego to kick off the men's water polo season. Perennial powerhouses Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara will take aim at No. 2 USC, the only team with an Olympic medalist. Junior J.W. Krumpholz won a silver in Beijing as the U.S. team embarrassed all of Eastern Europe (sans Hungry) in the pool.
