Portuguese legend Luis Figo has expressed his delight after confirming that he will be staying on at Inter Milan for one more year.

Figo looked likely to leave the club this summer when his contract expired following an injury-ravaged campaign.

Although President Massimo Moratti had openly expressed his wish that Figo stayed on, it seemed that the player's frosty relationship with former coach Roberto Mancini would see him move on to pastures new.

However Mancini was then sacked by Moratti, and replaced by Figo's Portuguese compatriot Jose Mourinho.

This appears to have convinced Figo to stay on, and he has confirmed that he will play the 2008-09 season.

"Last season, I was out for a long time with injuries. I didn't want to finish my career with such a disappointing season," the wideman told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "I wanted another year to prove something and it was beautiful that my desire coincided with Inter's."

Figo joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2005, and has won three consecutive Scudetti at the outfit, although the first of these was awarded in the courts following the Calciopoli scandal.
