Italy: Juventus blasts Reggina, climbs within three of lead |
CATANIA, Sicily (AP) -- Juventus scored two goals in each half Saturday to defeat Reggina 4-0 in Serie A. Mauro Camoranesi, who has battled muscle injuries for most of the season, scored his first goal of the year in the 28th to give Juventus the early lead. Alessandro Del Piero helped set up the goal by drawing three defenders before sending a no-look pass with his heel to Pavel Nedved, who found Camoranesi unmarked in front of the Reggina net. Amauri scored his seventh goal of the season to double the lead in the 44th, before Giorgio Chiellini made it 3-0 in the 62nd. Del Piero completed the route from the penalty spot in the 74th. The win gives Juventus 27 points and puts the Turin-based club three points behind first-place Inter Milan, which hosts Napoli Sunday. Napoli has 24 points and can pull even with Juventus again with a win over Inter. In Catania, Jose Castillo scored a minute after coming on as a second-half substitute to give Lecce a 1-1 draw at Catania. Castillo knocked in a rebound in the 69th minute for his third goal of the season. Michele Paolucci had put Catania ahead in the 61st after hitting the post 10 minutes earlier. Catania has six wins, a draw and a loss this year at its Massimino stadium. Away from home, the Sicilian club has three draws and three losses. Lecce has not won a game since the end of September, a span of nine games. Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
