Napoli has signed Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, according to a report from Italy, making the former U.S. youth international its first winter transfer.

The Partenopei have been after the 20-year-old stopper for some time, and sporting director Pier Paolo Marino has beaten off stiff competition to land him.

Napoli-based Il Mattino claims the deal was done and dusted late Tuesday night and the player is set to arrive in January.

The Bosnian, who also holds an American passport, is strong, has height, pace and has already scored five goals this term.

Napoli was quick to move as it wanted to avoid missing out on him given that there was some interest in him from the English Premier League.

The details of the transfer are still unknown and Napoli is yet to make an official announcement.

Edy Reja's side have serious Champions League ambitions this term, and another top-rated defender is a welcome addition to the side.
