AS Monaco head coach Ricardo Gomes made it clear Wednesday that U.S. international forward Freddy Adu will stay with the French Ligue 1 side and will not be moving during the January transfer window.

"Freddy is evolving in Monaco," the Brazilian boss told French media. "He will be staying with us until the end of the season."

Adu, who is on loan from Benfica, has only made nine appearances for Les Rouge et Blanc since joining them in July. Coupled with his 11 appearances for the Portuguese side before the loan deal, that makes 20 European club appearances for Adu since he moved from Real Salt Lake in 2007.

Prior to his move abroad, Adu was a regular in D.C. United's rotation, with 11 goals in 87 appearances before his short move to Salt Lake. He is also a seasoned player for the U.S. national team at varying levels, with 50 combined appearances for the senior squad and Under-20s.
