Offseason questions for every MLB team (cont.)
NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST
Do the world champions cut ties with Pat "The Bat" Burrell, or do you just let the streaky left fielder go? And how much of a raise -- because he has to get one -- do you give Jamie Moyer?
New York Mets
With Billy Wagner out for the season, they still need to find a closer, so which free agent (K-Rod, Brian Fuentes) is it going to be? Can they live with Luis Castillo again at second?
They can't afford much, but can the Marlins really afford to deal away arbitration-eligible second baseman Dan Uggla? Don't they have to keep Ricky Nolasco, too?
How are they going to trade for a front-line starter if they're not willing to part with prospects? Is there a corner outfielder with pop out there that can help them?
Can a totally revamped coaching staff help Manny Acta and this 102-loss team? After he had a decent '08, don't they have to at least try to re-sign lefty Odalis Perez?
NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL
Can they pull off a trade to get the long-coveted second baseman Brian Roberts from the Orioles, solidifying their infield? With Kosuke Fukudome a possible bust, what do they plan to do with right field now?
Do they think that they really have a shot at keeping CC Sabathia in Milwaukee? Will they shop around for a leadoff hitter not named Mike Cameron or Rickie Weeks?
Any way that they can talk starter Randy Wolf into sticking around? And, even so, don't they need to get in the running for another frontline starter behind Roy Oswalt?
St. Louis Cardinals
Who can they find to take Adam Kennedy off their hands? Will they make a run at a needed shortstop, perhaps free-agent Rafael Furcal, who'd fit in nicely?
Are they willing to go into the market for a front-line starting pitcher? How far back in the long line looking for help at catcher will the Reds be?
Do you swallow and give first baseman Adam LaRoche his raise, or do you try to move him? Is there a free-agent right-handed power bat willing to come to Pittsburgh?
NATIONAL LEAGUE WEST
Los Angeles Dodgers
Can they re-sign Manny Ramirez for anything less than a six-year deal? And would keeping Manny stop them from re-signing Rafael Furcal and Derek Lowe?
Do they re-sign Randy Johnson for a chance to win No. 300 in an Arizona uniform? Is there any way that they re-sign Orlando Hudson, who is coveted by a lot of teams?
Can the Rocks find starting pitching help by dangling Matt Holliday or Garrett Atkins in a trade? And is there any way that one-time closer Brian Fuentes stays?
San Francisco Giants
Do the Giants, not far from contending in the weak NL West, find that big bat that they need? And can they at least get a little bit of help at third base?
San Diego Padres
Will they be able to move right-hander Jake Peavy and get decent return for him? And, oh yeah, is there decent return for such a young, dependable starter?
