Question:

With two days to go before the trade deadline, a lot of folks are still wondering whether they's staying or going. Such as these ....

1. Manny Ramirez, Red Sox, OF. Boston is now talking to the Dodgers and a couple other teams. However, most believe it will be nearly impossible for the Red Sox to trade Ramirez without hindering their World Series chances.

2. Jason Bay, Pirates OF. It was reported by MLB.com that Pirates owner Bob Nutting nixed a deal of Bay to the Braves, and it is believed that Pirates ownership did the same this winter when the Indians thought they had a deal for Bay. So the guess here is that Nutting seems to like that Bay fellow, which means Bay probably stays.

3. Raul Ibanez, Mariners OF. Seattle's great fire sale must be a last-minute thing. Interim GM Lee Pelekoudas may be looking for perfect deals, but at some point he may have to settle. It appears that the Mets don't want to trade prospects Jon Niese, Robert Parnell or Eddie Kunz for Ibanez, whose value may be disappointing in an outfield market once stocked with Bay, Xavier Nady (who was already traded to the Yankees) and, for a while at least, Matt Holliday (see below).

4. Jarrod Washburn, Mariners SP. The Yankees generously have offered to pay the $14 million remaining on Washburn's deal through 2008 or send a decent prospect Seattle's way if they'd take Kei Igawa's contract. But the Mariners want the money gone and the prospect. Talks appear to have cooled. Some wonder whether Seattle may like its team more than it lets on.

5. Adam Dunn, Reds OF. So far it appears that everyone's siding with J.P. Ricciardi, the Jays' talkative GM who said a few weeks back on his radio show that Dunn doesn't like baseball (even though the two had never met). The reality is, GMs don't really like Dunn, who usually comes up empty in the clutch. Despite an interest in outfielders on the part of the Mets, Phillies, Rays and Diamondbacks, no one seems to have stepped up with a big offer yet.

6. Huston Street, A's closer. Low radar gun readings have dropped his value, so speculation suggests now that GM Billy Beane may put a red light on Street. Beane's already gotten quite a haul for Dan Haren and Joe Blanton, setting the A's up for a nice run down the road.

7. George Sherrill, Orioles closer. The asking price is high on the pitcher who is more guts than stuff. The Cardinals and Brewers have been mentioned but the guess here is that he stays put.

8. A.J. Burnett, Blue Jays SP. Ricciardi now says Burnett is off the market. That could be because no one would take the contract that provides Burnett an opt-out clause, ripe to be exercised if he bombs or gets hurt.

9. Bronson Arroyo, Reds SP. Big contract, and bigger ERA meant no one especially wanted him, either. The Reds are reportedly saying now he's off the market, drawing yawns from many.

10. Randy Winn, Rich Aurilia, Benjie Molina, Omar Vizquel, Dave Roberts; Giants veterans. Molina and Winn have some value, the others get to stay in San Francisco.

11. Gerald Laird, Miguel Olivo, Paul Lo Duca, Rod Barajas; catchers. We'd take Laird or Barajas given the choice.

12. Brian Giles, Padres. Both Giles boys mysteriously lost their power in a hurry, but at least this one stayed in the bigs. He still provides a professional at-bat, not to mention lots of walks.

13. Vicente Padilla, Rangers SP. Not exactly beloved despite a high win total in recent years. Could help several teams, if anyone wants him.

14. Jack Wilson, Pirates SS. The Dodgers have troubles up the middle (Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent is a fairly nostalgic DP combo) so they may keep pushing -- though there appears to be little smoke there now.

15. Ken Griffey Jr., Reds OF. He gave the throat-slash sign to Reds announcer Scott Brantley following a recent home run. He may feel the same about MLB GMs, as very few of whom seem to want him. The Reds' fire sale hasn't drawn much heat. An unwanted superstar.

16. Greg Maddux, Padres SP. He has a no-trade clause and is said to be fine with staying in San Diego. If he'd go anywhere, perhaps the Dodgers would make sense.

17. Frank Catalanotto, Rangers OF. A professional hitter caught in a numbers game in Texas. A threat to help anyone who takes him.

18. Paul Byrd, Indians SP. The Rockies have shown interest in the 37-year-old righty, who has gone just 5-10 this year and whose career has gone pretty much downhill since Game 7 of last year's ALCS.

19. Eddie Guardado, Cla Meredith, Scott Downs, Arthur Rhodes, David Weathers, Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker, Mike Gonzalez, Will Ohman, John Grabow, Ron Mahay, Jack Taschner; middle men. Of these, we'd take Guardado, Weathers, Bradford, Grabow, Mahay and Taschner.

20. Adrian Beltre, 3B, Mariners. Minnesota tried, but like the others he's probably stuck in Seattle.

21. Matt Holliday, Rockies OF. A winter project. The Rockies appear in it to win it now.

22. Brian Fuentes, Rockies SP. With the Rockies still in it, his chances to move are also "highly unlikely'' in the words of Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd.
