Another Hurley takes top spot; Gonzaga on hot streak

For the first time in these rankings, a father, Bob Hurley, has replaced his son, Dan Hurley, as coach of the nation's top team. The elder Hurley, whose St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.) lineup boasts six Division I signees, will travel to Springfield, Mass., this weekend as the Friars and nine other teams in the Top 25 participate in the HoopHall Classic.

Another pair of lopsided wins (72-43 over Life Center Academy and 92-19 over New Brunswick) has the Friars primed for an undefeated run into February and possibly March.

Six-foot-10 forward Travis Wear is out a month with a torn muscle in his left shin, but if Gary Franklin can keep up his hot shooting, the Monarchs can get through that stretch.

Kansas-bound Quintrell Thomas had 25 points and 11 rebounds in an impressive win over St. Raymond's (Bronx, N.Y.). Junior guard Dexter Strickland committed to UNC after that game. Keep an eye on freshman Michael Gilchrist as he appears next in line to star for the Celtics.
Next: Friday vs. St. Edwards (Lakewood, Ohio) at McDonald's Classic in Erie, Pa.; could play Rice (Harlem, N.Y.) Saturday in tourney.

The Panthers defended their area bragging rights with a 64-61 win against DeSoto (Texas).

After losing to Academy of the New Church (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) 53-50, the Gray Bees re-proved their mettle with a tough 55-52 against Rice (Harlem, N.Y.).

The Clippers continued to sail along with Kevin Green-Germany and Nasir Robinson leading blowouts over Sun Valley (Aston, Pa.), Harriton (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Booker T. Washington (Richmond, Va.).
