Gonzaga wins WCAC crown; Fairfax to battle Taft

Both St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.) and Academy of the New Church (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) ended their seasons with wins last week, but the rest of the Top 25 are still battling for section, county and state titles.

Gonzaga (30-1) of Washington, D.C., capped an impressive run through the WCAC playoffs with a win over rival Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.) for the title, and No. 21 Fairfax (Los Angeles) edged No. 24 Westchester in a 55-53 double overtime thriller.

The Gray Bees, who do not participate in the state playoffs due to their independent status, finished their season with a 58-44 win over Benedictine (Richmond, Va.). Point guard Scott Machado committed to Iona last week.

The Panthers are primed for a state title run following wins over Bell (Hurst, Texas) and Richland (Hills, Texas).

John Adams scored 17 points in a 70-43 rout of Mills (Millbrae, Calif.).
