The elections are over but Ohio remains a battleground state. This week's toughest test pits St. Ignatius (Cleveland) against No. 22 Glenville (Cleveland). Also in the Buckeye State, Elder (Cincinnati) plays Northmont (Clayton, Ohio) in the Division 1 playoffs.

The Patriots, who used strong punting and forced a late safety in a 17-14 win over St. James (La.), clinched a share of the District 10-2A title.

Able to overcome Bothell's (Wash.) attacking defense, the Spartans earned a hard-fought 16-12 victory over the Cougars, who controlled the clock. They have earned a bye for the first round of the playoffs.

Quarterback Taylor Martinez was efficient (16 of 23 passing) as the Huskies defeated J.W. North of Riverside 42-19. Next up is city-rival Santiago.

Xavier Bacon sizzled with 242 all-purpose yards, 159 rushing, as the Eagles beat Warner Robins 14-0. Up next is Colquitt County.

Kevin Moore was everywhere in a 51-6 win over Hammond (Columbia, Md.) as he recorded a tackle for a safety, rushed for two touchdowns and hauled in a 13-yard pass for a touchdown.

Armed with a loaded offense and an opportunistic defense, the Cowboys beat Godby 50-33 despite falling behind 13-0. Dixie County (Fla.) is next.

The The Tarblooders eased through the first round of Division 1 playoffs with a 35-8 win over Brecksville-Broadview Heights. This week brings a tougher test in St. Ignatius (Cleveland).

A week after upsetting previously ranked Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.), the Cavaliers clinched their first Region II-4A title since 2001. The playoffs begin this week against Spartanburg (S.C.).

The Eagles kept East (Plano, Texas) winless as junior quarterback Matt Brown ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in a 30-14 win. Next up is Wylie on Friday for the District 8-5A title.

To open the Division 1 playoffs, the Panthers beat Centerville 52-27. Junior quarterback Mark Miller (16 of 26 passes for 339 yards) threw three touchdown passes. Elder faces Clayton Northmont Saturday.
