Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL's leading goal scorer last season, has returned to Moscow to be with his ailing grandfather and will miss the Washington Capitals game Tuesday against the Nashville Predators.

There is no timetable for the return of the 23 year-old left winger, who won the Hart Trophy as the league's MVP in 2007-08.

Ovechkin, who had 65 goals last season, has been mired in a goal-scoring slump at the start of 2008-09. Despite averaging just over five shots per game in Washington's first eight contests, Ovechkin has just two goals. He went through a seven-game stretch without a goal last March for the Capitals.
