Rick Dutrow
Rick Dutrow's confidence in Big Brown has been professed throughout the media in the days running up to Belmont.

"Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings," said the famed English poet and writer Samuel Johnson, who likely would have found Big Brown trainer Rick Dutrow an interesting character. Since his horse romped in the Preakness, Dutrow has taken self-confidence to another level, talking big and trash-talking at every corner of the barn. Below, we offer the many guarantees of Dutrow, in his own words:

"Stone cold, babe." -On Big Brown's Triple Crown prospects, New York Times, May 19, 2008

He's going to be up there with any good horse that's ever run. When everybody's talking about him, he'd be in the same breath as Secretariat, Affirmed, all those good ones." -- New York Times, May 19

We are just looking at (Casino Drive) like he is just another horse in the race. I would like to see him come out of the race, without a doubt. (But) we are certainly not afraid of running against him. I would think (Casino Drive) would have to have more thoughts about running against Big Brown than we do about him." --Bloodhorse.com, May 22

''We'll show up for the last one if our horse is good and he's ready. I would like them to run against each other. It would be good for racing, and it would be good for us. It wouldn't be so good for Curlin.'' --On the prospects of meeting four-year-old Curlin in the Breeders' Cup, New York Times, May 22

He's got no chance of beating our horse. I'll be in the winner's circle when they get to the quarter pole. That's how I feel. I don't see that this horse can beat him." --On Casino Drive's prospects, New York Times, May 22

"If the race was today, he'd still go out and kick butt." -- On the news that Big Brown had a quarter crack in his left front hoof, New York Daily News, May 25

"It's not going to be an issue. It's bad that it happened, but we're going to be able to fix him up. The amount of training he is missing is nothing. He is going to be ready to roll." --On the injury affecting the Belmont, New York Times, May 26

"I feel like it's actually a foregone conclusion. To me, I just see the horses he's in with, and I see our horse, so I expect him to win this race." -On a pre-Belmont conference call, May 29

"He's as good as he's ever been. He's as happy as he can be. I can't imagine (the quarter crack) being an issue right now. He's perfectly fine. It's even possible that the couple of days (he missed) will work to our advantage. - Bloodhorse.com, May 29

"I can't imagine what I'm going to feel like when they turn for home. I just can't imagine. I know that it's going to be a beautiful picture for us. I know our horse is just ... he's just in a zone and I see his competition, that turning for home something is going to come over the crowd. So, I can't wait." --Associated Press, May 29

"I have to think if he ever gets the lead in the Belmont the race is going to be over." --Associated Press, May 29

"If I were you guys, I would put others underneath. This Japanese horse (Casino Drive) has so much to prove and I don't know if he is on top of his game training here. I would not depend on that horse being second. - On how to bet the Belmont, New York Daily News, May 30

"I got a chance to see him coming on the track when we were going off. Someone pointed out the horse to me and I watched him run and saw him in person. He can't beat Big Brown. There's no way in the world he can beat Big Brown. I'm not worried about that horse anymore. I heard the clockers didn't understand what the hell they were trying to do with the horse. He is another horse in the race. Big Brown is going to have to school him like he has every other horse he has ever run against. It's going to be simple. - On Casino Drive, New York Daily News, May 30

I'm not saying we're in a hurry to make the lead. At any point, when he's got a head in front, I just can't see someone coming and catching him." -Associated Press, May 31

"Look how good he looks. He just looks unbelievable. I can't believe I'm training a horse that looks this good and has done what he's done. Forget about it. There's no way in the world there's any horse that's doing any better than Big Brown. It's impossible." -Associated Press May 31

"I don't even care about the post position. -Associated Press, May 31

"No matter what you want him to do he's going to do for you. I think it helped (the Preakness). Every time you see him doing the things he does, it's unbelievable. He's not supposed to be doing the things he does." -Associated Press, May 31

I don't think they can beat our horse, so why should I be afraid of them? I feel as confident as I ever have with the horse. He looks better now than he ever looked. Things are as good as they can be." -On his opponents, New York Daily News, June 1

"His mind is just unbelievable. I never met another horse like him. The way that he is so laid back and nothing seems to get to him. That helps him so much in his races." --On Big Brown's mind, New York Daily News, June 1

"If you take our horse out of the race, it's a wide-open race. Anything can happen. I mean, the [Bob] Baffert horse [War Emblem] fell on his knees coming out of the gate going for the Triple Crown [in 2002]. It's a horse race. You can't blame anyone for trying. I mean second, third money in the Belmont, that's a big thing to put by your ticket." -New York Daily News, June 1

"That is one helluva question. I would try to talk them into not running against us because I wouldn't want to see our horse get beat, and I wouldn't want to see Secretariat get beat." -On racing against Secretariat, New York Post, June 1

"Big Brown. That's what his advantage is. You put him on one of the other horses, he's not going to have an advantage just because he rode this race 10 years ago. His advantage is Big Brown. That's how I see it." -On jockey Kent Desormeaux's advantage in the Belmont Stakes, New York Daily News, June 1

"Because he is the best horse in the race." -On why he has so much faith in Big Brown achieving the feat, Bloodhorse.com, June 3

"I cannot imagine what I'm going to feel like when we turn for home. Our horse is just in a zone, and I see his competition, and I just know that no one is going to catch him. I can't wait." -New York Times, June 4

"You got today, you got tomorrow and Friday and Saturday. As long as he gets there the way he is right now, he will win, without a doubt." Associated Press, June 4

"The post ain't going to get him beat." -New York Daily News, June 5

"I mean, second and third money in the Belmont, that's a big thing. And in my opinion, that's what the others are running for. I'm sure a lot of the connections in the race would say, "Hey look, if you give me second place right now, I'll take it." -New York Post, June 5
