NHL Power Rankings
Rank LW Team
11 10
Ottawa Senators (41-27-7)
It's difficult to imagine where they'd be if not for the production of Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson. The trio has combined for 106 of the team's 235 goals. Now, if Ottawa could just get something out of its other lines: Randy Robitaille has gone 16 games without a goal, Dean McAmmond hasn't scored since Jan. 29, and Shean Donovan since Jan. 5.
Last Week: 1-1-0
12 12
Calgary Flames (39-26-10)
Jarome Iginla single-handedly squashed the Wild on Saturday. But that's status quo, as the captain has 27 goals in 42 games against Minnesota. Iggy has not been able to help the anemic power play, which since Jan. 5 has scored more than one man-advantage goal in a game just twice. Sorry, Flames fans, but if your team does make the playoffs, I don't like its chances.
Last Week: 2-1-0
13 13 Though he hasn't played an entire game since Jan. 11, Curtis Sanford could play a huge role. Roberto Luongo is slated to start all seven remaining matches, but that could change quickly. Luongo's wife is due the first week of April -- and Vancouver has games on March 30, April 1, 3 and 5. The push toward another division title could rest on Sanford's shoulders. No pressure.
Last Week: 2-1-0
14 18 Even if for some reason they don't make the playoffs, they still have positives to take into the offseason. Philly is 33-23-10 against Eastern foes. Last year: 16-44-12. Want more? So far this season, they have scored 229 goals, while last year they scored 213. I'm fairly confident they make the playoffs, but only get out of the first round if Marty Biron shines.
Last Week: 3-0-0
15 8 Some Avs fans believe coach Joel Quenneville's constant line changes are doing more harm than good -- not allowing players time enough to gel and build some semblance of chemisty. Some of those changes have been forced by injuries. Another reason Colorado has had an up-and-down season: the 29th-ranked PP, which will finish outside the top 10 for the first time in team history.
Last Week: 0-3-0
16 15
Boston Bruins (37-28-10)
They've been stuck in the mud for much of March, with lack of production from the third line a big reason. P.J. Axelsson, Glen Murray and Glen Metropolit have done nothing of late. Axelsson hasn't scored in 12 games, Murray in 11 and Metropolit since Feb. 5. In fact, the last time Boston scored more than three goals in a game was Feb. 28 (13 games).
Last Week: 0-1-1
17 19 Tomas Vokoun is trying is darndest to keep them in the playoff chase. The veteran on Saturday became the second Panthers goalie to post 30 wins in a season. Roberto Luongo (sorry to bring that up, Florida fans) pocketed a team-record 35 in 2005-06. Florida is 8-1-1 in its last 10 and just three points out of the East's eighth spot.
Last Week: 1-0-1
18 17 With the playoffs an afterthought, it's time to recognize the solid play of Jason Arnott, their leading scorer who has only once gone back-to-back games without a point, and J.P. Dumont, the No. 2 who has gone consecutive games without a point once in his past 38. If Arnott finished with a flurry, he could eclipse his career high of 76 points.
Last Week: 1-2-0
19 21 Alex Ovechkin became the NHL's first 60-goal scorer in 12 years when he lit the lamp twice Friday in Atlanta. "I like playing in this building," said A.O., who has 14 goals and 11 assists in 12 games in Philips Arena. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when predicting a 70-goal season is in his future. Now, if we could just see this guy in the playoffs, that would be great.
Last Week: 2-1-0
20 24 Patrick Kane tied their rookie record for assists in a season with his 47th, joining current coach Denis Savard and Steve Larmer. Kane is just one reason for optimism in the Windy City, though the playoffs won't happen until next year, and goalie Corey Crawford, 23, has looked impressive in his three starts.
