NEW YORK (SI.com) --The New York Mets and right-hander Kelvim Escobar have agreed to a one-year, major league contract.

The deal became official on Saturday after Escobar, 33, who has made just one appearance in the majors the past two seasons because of shoulder problems, passed a physical.

Escobar's last full season came in 2007, when he went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 30 starts for the Los Angeles Angels. He has experience in the bullpen and is expected to be used as a reliever, possibly as a setup man for Francisco Rodriguez.

He will receive a base salary of $1.25 million, plus $3.15 million in incentives, including $125,000 for being on the Opening Day roster, $2 million based on appearances and $1 million based on games finished.
