Sixers hire Jordan as head coach

DENVER -- A league source told SI.com Friday night that the Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement in principle with former Washington Wizards coach Eddie Jordan to take over as their head coach. A formal announcement is expected to come over the weekend.

Jordan replaces Tony DiLeo, who went 32-27 after taking over for Maurice Cheeks in December. Under DiLeo Philadelphia advanced to the postseason as the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference but were knocked out by Orlando in the first round. DiLeo announced earlier this month that he would be returning to the Sixers front office.

Jordan holds a career record of 230-288 as a head coach in eight seasons with Sacramento and Washington, including an 8-18 record in the playoffs. He was fired by Washington last November after the injury-ravaged Wizards stumbled to a 1-10 start.
