Vols' 'Outlive' program to benefit cancer programs |
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Inspired by former Tennessee Volunteer star Chris Lofton's battle with cancer, coach Bruce Pearl is throwing his support behind a program aimed to support cancer education, outreach and screenings. As part of the "Outlive" fundraising drive, Tennessee will be selling T-shirts for $15. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for cancer prevention programs and screenings for different kinds of cancer. Pearl is calling on fans to wear the Outlive T-shirts when Tennessee hosts Florida on Jan. 31 in a nationally televised game. Outlive is the idea of Vols' graduate manager Brooks Savage, who said he was inspired by Lofton and the experience some of his family members have had with cancer. Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
