ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico's athletics department is imposing a 10 percent budget cut on each of its teams but athletic director Paul Krebs says it shouldn't affect competitiveness.

Krebs said Monday that each team will book travel further in advance and trim convention attendance to hit the goal.

He said New Mexico won't reduce anything related to student athlete care, "be it scholarships, be it academics, be it medical support."

Some universities elsewhere are coping with the troubled economy by cutting staff or programs. Krebs said that's not planned at New Mexico.
