NCAA grants Nebraska scholarship break

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- The NCAA is granting Nebraska a waiver that will allow the Cornhuskers to have 14 players on scholarship for the 2009-10 season instead of the usual 13 scholarships.

The waiver was based on conflicting initial eligibility standards for newcomer Christian Standhardinger.

Nebraska originally determined the 6-foot-8 German didn't meet NCAA academic requirements. His scholarship was then offered to another player in July.

But the NCAA failed to notify Nebraska that it had altered its grading scale for student-athletes from Germany. Under the new scale, Standhardinger is eligible.

Standhardinger still must sit out half of Nebraska's regular-season games because he played on a club team in Germany that had professionals.
